Orientation
Why Antalya is the practical first base
Antalya is not the quietest place on the coast, but it solves arrival. Flights, hotels, restaurants, old-town walks and beach access are easier here than in smaller coastal towns.
It works best as a beginning, not as the whole Turquoise Coast idea. Two nights usually give enough time before the route moves toward smaller Lycian coast bases.

I would not collect the rental car on the first night unless the hotel parking is easy. Antalya is more pleasant when the car is not immediately the main problem.

Mini itinerary
Mini itinerary
- Day 1Start with Kaleiçi, the harbor and one easy swim or beach hour.
- Day 2Use the next day for city beaches or a nearby ancient-site or waterfall-style day.
- Day 3Pick up a rental car only when leaving for Çıralı, Olympos or Kaş if city parking feels awkward.
Planning notes
Avoid These Common Mistakes
Keeping the car during old-town time
Kaleiçi and central beach days are easier when parking is not driving the schedule.
Treating Antalya as only an airport
One calm old-town evening can make the route feel less transactional.
Overpacking day trips before the coast
Save energy for Kaş, Fethiye and boat days instead of using every Antalya day as a transfer.

Guide Details
Practical take
Antalya is the easiest way to begin the coast without immediately dealing with smaller-town logistics. Use it for arrival, food, a first swim, Kaleiçi and a calmer transition into the road trip.
How it fits the route
Start here if your route moves west toward Çıralı, Olympos, Kaş and Fethiye. If you land near Dalaman, Antalya becomes less necessary unless you deliberately want the eastern coast.
Typical trade-offs
Antalya is practical and atmospheric in the old town, but it is not the slowest coastal base. For quiet water and boat days, Kaş or Dalyan usually feel better after the arrival chapter.
