Dublin works best before or after the car section. Galway is the cleanest west coast base. The Cliffs of Moher are iconic but weather-sensitive, so keep the day flexible. Dingle rewards an overnight stay because Slea Head Drive and town time feel weaker as a rushed detour. Killarney is the practical base for the national park and Ring of Kerry logic.

Not ideal for

This route is weaker if you want guaranteed sunshine, dislike left-side driving or hope to cover the full Wild Atlantic Way in one compact trip. It also becomes less enjoyable when every overnight is chosen only to shorten the next drive by a few minutes.

Suggested route options

Seven days should stay selective: Dublin, Galway, Cliffs of Moher and either Killarney or Dingle.

Ten days are the best first recommendation: Dublin, Galway, Connemara or the cliffs, Dingle, Killarney and a calm return.

Fourteen days let you add Ring of Kerry, more national park time, a Shannon or Cork departure option and one weather-flexible day.

A three-week version can add Donegal, Northern Ireland or West Cork, but only after the core west-coast route has enough space.

Base and hotel-change strategy

Use Dublin for two nights without a car. Use Galway for two or three nights if Connemara and the cliffs matter. Sleep near Doolin or Lahinch only when cliff timing is central. Choose Dingle for peninsula atmosphere, Killarney for park and Ring of Kerry practicality, and avoid changing hotels every night unless the route genuinely benefits.
