Söll with Kids: Where to Stay, Ski School and a Manageable Week

In Söll, choose a workable family morning before choosing the prettiest room. With children aged seven and ten, the journey from breakfast to ski school often determines how the week feels. An apartment with sensible gondola access can be more useful than a larger place whose bus connection only looks convenient on a listing.

This plan assumes one family base, adults who already ski and children placed in lessons by ability. Official information was checked on 9 September 2026. Where to stay: village, gondola base or Hochsöll?

Söll village centre is the reference point when looking for shops, restaurants and valley accommodation. The Hexenwasser gondola base is a separate location in Stampfanger. Hochsöll is above it, around the middle station. The map identifies these three areas for orientation; it does not mark an agreed lesson collection point or a winter walking route.

For a first ski week, I would compare two options first: a village apartment with a practical winter ski-bus connection, or a property with a usable walk to the gondola. Ask for the actual stop name or walking route in each case. A straight-line distance does not explain whether you can walk there in ski boots, need to cross a road or have an easy return after dinner.

For a mountain property, also check luggage arrangements, the latest possible arrival and meals. Being near Hochsöll does not automatically make every lesson meeting point convenient. The precise approach still matters, and a spontaneous shopping trip down to the village needs a workable return.

A property farther out can work when transport and supplies are settled. Test it against an early finish: how does one adult take a tired child home while the others remain on the mountain? That answer helps more than a listing promising “a few minutes from the ski area”.

Hexenwiese, Hexenland and the right lesson meeting point

The similar names refer to different arrangements. Hexenwiese in the valley is the beginner area with free access. The operator gives snow tubing its own ticket conditions. Free entry does not include ski instruction or every additional activity. Hexenwiese access and conditions.

Hexenland, run by Söll-Hochsöll Ski School, lists Hochsöll at the middle station for its children’s groups. Its main valley office is elsewhere. Ages seven and ten are only part of the grouping decision. Explain whether each child can stop, turn under control and use a lift. Expect separate groups if their skills differ. Before travelling, establish lunchtime supervision, collection arrangements and the lift ticket each child needs. Make the morning work for two children

Work backwards from the confirmed lesson start: handover, the walk from the gondola, the ride and possible queue, collecting equipment and putting boots on, then the bus or walk from the property. Leave more room on the first morning than on later days. If the supplier allows it, use arrival day for equipment fitting and any unresolved course paperwork.

Give each adult a clear job. One can keep tickets and lesson details together while the other checks gloves, goggles, helmets and a small snack. Save each other’s phone numbers and the school contact. If the children meet in different places, you need two workable approaches; matching start times do not solve that problem by themselves.

Adults can choose their own ski route after handover. On the first day especially, stay within a manageable area with a dependable return for collection. Whether to ski down to the valley depends on ability, conditions and tiredness. Ask about returning by gondola instead of turning the final run into an obligation.

Plan ski hire, storage and lunch together

Sporthaus Edinger offers ski hire at the Söll gondola base. Its ski storage facility includes heated options and family lockers. Ask about room for four sets of equipment, boots and helmets, along with access, reservations and the cost. Storage only helps if you can collect everything before your required gondola departure.

When comparing other hire shops, check the whole process: where equipment is fitted, where you can swap an uncomfortable boot and where everything must be returned on the last day. Hire and overnight storage are not automatically one service. Also establish whether collecting equipment the previous evening uses a rental day.

For packed lunches, Blaues Wunder is a free heated rest and self-catering space; the Rabennest above sells snacks and coffee. Check current access and whether reaching it fits the family’s lunch break. A self-catering lounge does not provide the supervision included in a separate childcare booking. Five or six ski days: a realistic weekly rhythm

Five ski days: arrive Saturday, ski Sunday to Thursday and leave Friday. That is six nights. Six ski days: stay until the following Saturday, adding Friday for skiing together. That is seven nights and eight calendar days including arrival and departure.

Both options depend on a course that fits. The school describes consecutive group days and a Sunday-to-Thursday weekly pattern; confirm the arrangement for 2026/27. A rest day inserted into a progressive course is not automatically a lesson you can recover later. Ski school course arrangements.

Lessons, getting your bearings and a short afternoon are enough for ski day one. Days two and three can become easier through familiarity. Keep the fourth afternoon open if the children are tiring. On day five, let them help decide whether a familiar run after lessons still sounds enjoyable. The optional sixth day is for runs that suit everyone; completing a circuit of the entire SkiWelt is not a necessary finale.

A full rest day either replaces a ski day before tickets are purchased or needs a longer stay. The six nights in the shorter plan do not contain an extra free day between five full ski days.

Arriving by train and completing the journey to Söll

Compare trains to Wörgl or Kufstein together with the onward journey to your property. The region currently lists regional bus 865 via Wörgl–Söll and 866 via Kufstein–Söll. Request a valid digital GuestCard from your accommodation before arrival if you want to use the included regional buses from the station. A station shuttle is a separate arrangement. Winter ski buses serve the daily lift journey; summer KaiserJet times are not a substitute. Check the return connection after an early lesson collection in particular.

An afternoon without skiing

The Winterwunderland at the middle station has a winter play area, while natural-ice skating depends on temperature. A separate pedestrian gondola ticket may be needed. The Kleine Hexenrallye pedestrian activity is announced from 12 December 2026. It combines a winter walk with a search game and is explicitly not intended for skiers. Ask locally about the open route and the last suitable gondola descent. Kleine Hexenrallye.

In poor weather, a break can be smaller: a short outing in the village, something warm to eat and a quiet afternoon at your accommodation. Summer photographs of Hexenwasser do not establish that its water attractions operate in winter.
