Bryce Canyon is NOT a canyon – it's a massive natural amphitheater full of hoodoos.
Hoodoos = Rock spires (limestone erosion pillars)

Best Hikes
1. Navajo Loop + Queen's Garden (Combined) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 3 miles loop
Time: 2–3 hours
Elevation: 550ft down/up
Route:
- Start Sunset Point
- Navajo Loop DOWN (steep switchbacks!)
- Queen's Garden back up (gentler)
Highlights:
- Thor's Hammer (famous hoodoo)
- Wall Street (narrow slot with trees)
- Queen Victoria formation
Tip: Counter-clockwise (down Navajo, up Queen's = easier!)
2. Navajo Loop (alone) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 1.3 miles loop
Time: 1–1.5 hours
Elevation: 550ft down/up
Perfect when:
- Limited time
- Want just highlights
- With older kids (6+)
Caution: Steep switchbacks, slippery when wet!
3. Rim Trail ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Difficulty: Easy
Length: Up to 11 miles (choose sections)
Time: Flexible
Special: Mostly flat, along rim
Recommended sections:
- Sunrise → Sunset Point (0.9 miles, 30 min)
- Sunset → Inspiration Point (0.75 miles, 25 min)
Perfect for:
- Families with small kids
- Seniors
- Wheelchairs/strollers (partially paved)
4. Peek-A-Boo Loop ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Difficulty: Strenuous
Length: 5.5 miles
Time: 3–4 hours
Elevation: 800ft
Only if:
- You have time
- You're fit
- Want fewer tourists
Sunrise (Must-Do!)
Why sunrise is special:
- Hoodoos glow orange/red
- Almost no tourists (most sleeping!)
- Perfect photo light
Best spots:
- Sunrise Point (the name!)
- Bryce Point (360° view)
- Inspiration Point
Timing:
- Summer: ~5:30–6:00 AM
- Fall: ~6:00–6:30 AM
- Arrive 30 min early for parking
Scenic Drive
18-Mile Scenic Drive (one-way)
Highlights:
- Rainbow Point (southernmost, 9,100ft)
- Yovimpa Point
- Ponderosa Canyon
Time: 1–1.5h drive only, 2–3h with stops
Worth it if:
- You have time
- Still have energy after hiking
- Afternoon (less crowded)

Spring/Fall (April–May, Sept–Oct):

Remember elevation: 8,000ft+ = much cooler than Zion/Grand Canyon!
