  • Supermarkets for road trip supplies
  • Acclimatization before desert heat

  • Buy water supplies (bulk packs)
  • Get America the Beautiful Pass (80 USD, worth it for 3+ parks)

Timing & Season

Best travel time:

  • Spring (March–May): Pleasant temps, wildflowers
  • Fall (September–November): Fewer crowds, golden colors

Avoid:

  • Summer (June–August): Extreme heat (104°F+), overcrowded
  • Winter (December–February): Bryce Canyon partially closed, snow

Packing Essentials

  • Lots of water (1+ gallon per person per day)
  • Sun protection (hat, SPF 50+ sunscreen)
  • Hiking shoes
  • Layers (cold mornings, hot afternoons)
  • Offline maps (Google Maps doesn't work everywhere)

Common Mistakes to Avoid

❌ Too little time planned – rushing instead of enjoying
❌ Hiking midday (heat exhaustion!)
❌ No reservations (Antelope Canyon, Angels Landing)
❌ Fueling up too late (gas stations rare in desert)

✅ Start early mornings
✅ Always carry water
✅ Flexibility for weather changes
✅ Fuel up at every opportunity
